There is very little to say about a charger. That may be exactly why the IKEA SJÖSS is interesting.
The 20W SJÖSS is a tiny USB-C charger designed for phones, tablets and other small devices. It supports modern fast-charging standards, weighs almost nothing, and costs about the price of a coffee.
Nothing about it tries to look advanced.
There is no display, no decorative lighting, no oversized branding and no attempt to turn a power adapter into a gadget. It is simply a small white object that performs one of the most repetitive technological tasks in our lives.
That restraint is its design.
USB-C has gradually turned charging into infrastructure. We increasingly expect one connector to work across phones, headphones, tablets, accessories and, at higher power levels, computers. The charger itself becomes less important precisely because the standard becomes more useful.
