We have grown used to judging artificial intelligence by the quality of an answer. That measure is about to become insufficient. Once intelligence enters production, its value is expressed in what a company can make, move, repair and deliver—and in the resources required to do it.

This issue looks at the moment abstraction becomes infrastructure. It is a more demanding world than software, and perhaps a more honest one: every promise must eventually survive contact with matter.
